Despite the name, The Mamas Expo is as much for children—ages newborn to 6—as it is for parents. This year’s expo, the third annual, will be jam-packed with parent workshops, products for purchase, shopping discounts, and activities for kids. You can sample kid-friendly treats and gather information and giveaways from services and specialists in Queens and throughout NYC. There will be a designated play areas for the kids, musical performances, puppet shows, book signings, and more.

At the NYRR Youth Jamboree, kids as young as 4 can experience all the fun of a track and field competition—no experience necessary. In this daylong event, kids in pre-K through high school will participate in races ranging from 55 to 800 meters as well as relays, long jump, and shot put events. First-, second-, and third-place finishers will receive ribbons, and all other finishers will receive participation ribbons. Online registration is strongly recommended.

Parade begins at Jayson Avenue and Northern Boulevard, Little Neck

May 27

Marching bands, floats, military troops, and lots of flag waving will be the order of the day during the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade. One of the largest holiday parades in the country (now in its 87th year), drawing an estimated 80,000 spectators and participants to Northeast Queens, the parade is a wonderful tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. Honorary Grand Marshals this year include Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, and Borough President Helen Marshall.

An interfaith service will be held at 10am at the Community Church of Little Neck (46-16 Little Neck Parkway), followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Veterans Monument and Flagpole (Alameda Avenue and Northern Boulevard).
