Huaxia New York Central Chinese School now offers an immersion Chinese language program at Westchester Community College. The program is designed to teach Chinese heritage from pre-K to the AP level through an immersion of different learning styles and teaching tools. The classes have recently been modified to benefit the community as a whole.

The learning curriculum is geared toward a broader spectrum of families with the addition of content from enrichment language learning and exposure to the culture. This is beneficial so children can fully grasp Chinese heritage.

Classes are held Sundays for three hours, usually 9:30am-12:30pm. Within this time frame, two of the three hours are broken down into a language study, which may include learning Chinese through history lessons or a poem. In the last hour, students are immerged in the culture through activities such as martial arts or folk dancing.

“The Huaxia New York Central Chinese School is designed to teach the Chinese language to children while preserving the tradition,” says Yang Dai, principal of Huaxia New York Central Chinese School. “The culture class not only teaches Chinese language, but bridges the gap between the Chinese culture and American lifestyle.”

Huaxia New York Central Chinese School is located at Westchester Community College in Valhalla.
