Nassau Coliseum to Reopen in April After Major Renovation

The 43-year-old Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale will reopen early next month under its new name, NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank. 
 

Contractors broke ground on Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum nearly a year and half ago, with the purpose of undergoing a full makeover. Now Billy Joel is set reopen the coliseum with a sold-out concert on April 5. The renovated coliseum will have upgraded amenities and will feature eight local restaurants, all part of “Long Island Taste,” which will provide visitors with familiar, local flavor.

In addition to sporting events and musical acts, there will be lots to do for kids and families at NYCB Live. “We are thrilled to bring an exceptional guest experience and a dynamic and diverse slate of events to the reimagined Nassau Coliseum,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center, in a press release. “From sports, to music, to family entertainment, to outdoor festivals, and other special events, our soon-to-be-announced programming schedule will complement the local audience and bring the best to Long Island.”

The Long Island Nets, who are an NBA-D league team, call NYCB Live their home and will have great offerings for kids, including:

  • High-five lines
     
  • Opportunities to meet the players
     
  • A kids’ zone next to the court
     

The Long Island Nets will host its first spring break basketball camp at Island Garden from April 10-14 for children ages 8-14. The Long Island Nets Kids Club will launch May 1, and a fan fest is scheduled for June. The Long Island Nets will also have a kids’ dance team with auditions to be held in June.

Kids and families can also look forward to lots of other fun events at NYCB Live, including: 

  • Harlem Globetrotters on April 14
     
  • Monster Jam Triple Threat Series from April 21-23
     
  • Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus: Final Farewell with dates from May 12-21
     
  • Professional Bull Riders: Built Ford Tough Series from Sept. 23-24
     
  • Long Island Hoops series with dates in November, December, and January
