Summer Olympic-Themed Activities for Kids in the New York Area

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are upon us, and there’s no better way to celebrate this four-year occurence than to partake in Olympic-themed activities in the New York Area. Here are some of our can’t-miss picks for kids to have fun and cheer for Team USA. 


Mega Mini-Olympics

Friday, Aug. 5, 11:15am-12pm
Stepping Stones Museum, 303 West Ave., Norwalk, CT

Children will get to create their own “Olympic” event in miniature version. 

 

Celebrate Team USA!
Sunday, Aug. 6, 4:30-6:30pm
Jodi’s Gym, 25 Hubbels Drive, Mount Kisco

Join in for team building games, Olympics-themed crafts, gymnastics (Olympics style), and a pizza dinner. Dress in red, white, and blue.

 

Summer Games Cake for Teens
Wednesday, Aug. 10, 5pm
Freeport Public Library, 144 W. Merrick Road, Freeport

Create a cake using buttercream and fondant to celebrate the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Citi Celebrates Team USA: Rio on the Hudson
Aug. 5-11, Friday-Thursday, 12-9pm
Pier 26, Hudson River Park, Tribeca

Keep up with the latest Olympics action and enjoy Brazilian cuisine and entertainment throughout the week with family-friendly activities including face painting, live art demonstrations, samba dancers, and even opportunities to meet with U.S. Olympians and Paralympians including Mia Hamm, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Rudy Garcia-Tolson, and Scout Bassett. 

 

Brooklyn Family Fun Day Olympics
Friday, August 12, 1-4pm
Sunset Park Recreation Center, 4200 Seventh Ave., Sunset Park

Participate in the annual Family Fun Day with games like relay races, javelin throw, inflatable hop balls, giant inflatable bowling, and more.

 

Ocean Olympics
Aug. 5-26, Fridays, 2:30-4:30pm
The Whaling Museum and Education Center, 301 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor

In honor of the summer Olympics, create, design, and explore at the Olympic Stations. Pack a lunch and play in the outdoor space.

 

Themed Crafts
Aug. 6-27, Saturdays, 2-3pm
Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road, Westport, CT

Drop in for a different Olympics-themed craft every Saturday. All ages welcome.
