banda de los muertosDia de los Muertos Celebration

Hudson River Museum, Yonkers
Nov. 2

The Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) remembers and honors those who have departed. Family members make an altar, placing offerings of food, sugar skulls, candles, incense, flowers, and a photo of the departed soul on it. At the Hudson River Museum’s Dia de los Muertos Celebration, families can enjoy art projects, music, food, face painting, and other traditional holiday fun. At 3pm, see a parade and performance from Banda de los Muertos, a 14-piece group with a heavy-metal, brass-driven sound. From 1-4pm, take a guided Spooky Walk in English and Spanish through haunted Glenview, the museum’s riverside mansion; view the altar, decorated by Yonkers artist Zafiro Romero Acevedo (on view Oct. 26–Nov. 4); and make scary skull prints, face masks, tissue-paper flowers, or mini skull pillows with artist Pepe Coronado. Mexican food will be available for purchase.
